Our Community Director Carrie Cates is watching a horror film each day this October, in what she has dubbed 31 Days of Horror! We’ll be posting her spooky cinema journey here every day this month, so check back in to see what she’s watching next!
“While this film isn’t really scary by a standard sense, it’s a fun premise. Unfortunately, the filmmakers do make some strange choices in shot comps. Much of the dialogue is shot in profile and we see very little facial expression. This is especially true toward the beginning of the film as we’re getting to know the characters making it tough to connect to them. I will say though, I enjoyed Elijah Wood’s character and the film’s self-awareness (Rainn Wilson’s character even calls him a hobbit at one point). They did take a risk shooting some of the kid zombie scenes with a higher shutter speed, but I think that worked in their favor. Otherwise though, this thing is pretty sloppy, but entertaining. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, but I didn’t hate it.
0 out of 5 on the fright-o-meter.”
